The Endocannabinoid System

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The endocannabinoid system is a complex cell-signaling
system that plays a role in regulating a wide range of physiological processes in the body, including pain, mood, appetite, and sleep.

It consists of three main components: endocannabinoids (which are similar to cannabinoids
found in the cannabis plant), receptors that the endocannabinoids bind to, and enzymes that break down the endocannabinoids.

How does CBD interact with the Endocannabinoid System?

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system in a complex way. Unlike THC, which binds directly to the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system, CBD does not bind directly to these receptors. Instead, it appears to modulate the activity of the endocannabinoid system indirectly, by enhancing the activity of the endocannabinoids themselves.

CBD also interacts with other receptors in the body, including serotonin and vanilloid receptors, which may explain some of its effects on pain, anxiety, and sleep.
